

COLLABORATION WITH UTM University of Technology – Kuala Lumpur and Johor Baharu, MALAYSIA

URBAN NODE STUDY
CHENNAI – MALAYSIA
We visited UTM University of Technology of Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur (KL) and Johor Bharu (JB) as a part of the International Design Studio. The students worked on understanding nodes in Johar Baharu and understanding the urban grain of the city.

URBAN FORMS
Understanding the urban nodes of JB – JOHAR BAHARU and creating quick solutions for user groups studied in the city.

OUTCOME
URBAN IMPRESSIONS
The Design Studio was curated to study a liminal space in both the sites and conceptualizes a design ideas based on the analysis. The design was processed and imagined through diagrams and discussions.

EXPLORING
KUALA LUMPUR & JOHOR BAHARU
A Know Your City trip to KUALA LUMPUR and JOHOR BAHARU, exploring and travelling along the city visiting various places of significance like the KL tower, Patronas Twin Tower, Puthrajaya and its buildings, Batu Caves and other heritage areas.
COLLABORATION WITH CITY SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE – Colombo, SRI LANKA

SENSORY MAPPING
EXERCISE
At the Vertical Studio at CSA College, Sri Lanka, students conducted a sensory mapping exercise at Viharamahadevi Park to explore the space through sight, sound, smell, touch, and movement. They created a key plan, identified sensory hotspots, and documented observations using photographs, sketches, notes, and sensory charts.

EXPLORING
VIHARAMAHADEVI PARK
Mapping sessions were carried out at 11:00 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 4:30 p.m. to capture changes in the park’s atmosphere throughout the day.

OUTCOME
IMPRESSIONS
The exercise strengthened collaborative observation skills and deepened students’ understanding of the park’s dynamic environment.

EXPLORING
COLOMBO,SIGIRIYA & BENTOTTA
Students visited several Architect’s Office along with heritage and cultural sites including Sigiriya, Bentota, and Colombo which exposed them to diverse landscapes, architectural traditions, urban spaces, and cultural contexts. The study tour broadened their understanding of place, strengthened observational and analytical skills, and enriched their perspective on architecture, heritage, and environmental design.
