FUTURE OF ARCHITECTURE 2021 is one of a kind lecture series that delves deeper into the successful architecture practices across the nation. The main aim of this talk series is to understand the workings of an architecture firm and how and what they look for when they hire for their firm. It was a great platform for young budding architects to get a view inside these successful practices.
Ar.Murali Murugan, the Principal Architect of Murali Architects, a leading architecture firm in Chennai which was set up in the year 1990. He graduated his Bachelors in Architecture from School of Architecture and Planning, Anna university and his Masters from McGill University, Canada. The firm won, the Indian Institute of Architects’ “National Level for Excellence in Architecture” award, under the ‘Commercial category’ in the year 2016 for the project – “Highway Restaurant – Manoj Bhavan”. They also won the Indian Institute of Interior Designer’s – Zonal Award for the design of Hearing Aid Centre at Chennai in the year 2018.
Pramod Balakrishnan is one of the eminent architect based in Chennai. He runs his practice Edifice for alomost 3 decades now. The firm has to its credit larrge housing, industrial and educational campuses. He also actively devotes his time in influencing young minds through a collaborative platform called CAF.
Sriram Ganapathi has been a part of KSM since its inception. Having become one of the ‘Young Designers’ cited by IA&B (Indian Architect and Builder) in 2002, he has been working towards energy efficient and climatically relevant architecture through KSM. He firmly believes that the design process is as important as the designed artifact itself.
Introducing Ar.Manish Gulati , director of MOFA Studios. Working for more than 15 years, his experience from designing Accessories/ products , Exhibitions , Retail, Residences to National Institutional projects, Sports stadiums, Hospitality and residential. His forte & driving passion till date remains Design & innovation. The studio and practice from the beginning reflected his clear approach to design – Contemporary, bold & global with subtle Regional / Contextual interventions to Concepts. His innate ability to remain abreast with technology, his deep love for the arts and sensitivity towards life always remains at core to any of his works.
Ar. Swanzal Kak Kapoor is the design principal at Saka studio, an award winning architectural practice based in Gurgaon. She has a deep interest in Ecology, Sustainability, Civic Action, Architectural History and the Arts.
Her architectural and interior work celebrates cultural specificity, craft, embodied emotions, ecological consciousness and collaborative synergy. She believes that each of us should ‘ be the change we wish to see in the world’ and the key to successful cities is a participatory, collaborative approach to ideation, infrastructure, governance and administration.
Takbir Fatima is the director of DesignAware. She has lived, worked, studied and taught in AL-KHOBAR, Dubai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Chennai and London. Takbir is passionate about design research, digital prototyping and computation. She aims to work on socially relevant projects. Takbir is associated with various schools of design and architecture including VIT University, The Boston Architectural College and Turenscape Academy to name a few. She is a global teaching artist with Facebook Open Arts.
Takbir was named emerging architect of the year 2016 by GROHE NDTV DESIGN & ARCHITECTURE AWARDS and TELENGANA YOUNG ARCHITECT 2016 by INDIAN INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTS.
